Solved how to run dell operating system DVD?

December 2, 2019 at 11:10:19
Specs: Windows 7
I purchased a Dell desktop with Windows 7 installed and a DVD that let you convert to Windows 10. The DVD has a "exe" file named bootsect.exe. This is their part # Dell P/N 07PF46 (DVD). This DVD size is 5.86 GB!

Thank for any help.

You may need to set your system to boot form the DVD drive unless you see 'hit any key to boot from CD/DVD' If you have that at start up (very briefly) you tap a key while booting up with the DVD in the drive. If not then you need to set your BIOS to boot from the DVD drive before the hard drive. This means that you need to activate booting from the DVD drive AND put it in the boot order first. Then you will get the option briefly to tap a key to boot from the DVD. Once it recognizes the boot on the DVD it will launch the installer. Read the options carefully.
Upgrade install will keep all of your stuff and most settings (back up first just in case).
Clean install will wipe the drive and install it fresh without any of your stuff, programs, settings, etc.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi Fingers,

Thanks for your reply. Changing the boot order should do the trick.

And if you leave the boot order set as DVD first then HD... if there is no disk in the DVD drive then the system will (or ought to) boot from the HD.
