How to manually number page numbers in footer?

May 9, 2017 at 11:40:42
Specs: Windows 10
I don't want auto-numbering in my FOOTERS. mY document has 5 sections, and ALL 5 SECTIONS HAVE DIFFERENT NAMES in the footer, below the page number

EXAMPLE:
1 1
LETTER TO MR. JONES

1
LETTER TO MR. SMITH 6

1
LETTER TO MR. WHITE 15

Section 1 has 5 pages, Section 2 has 10 pages, etc. First page of each section to begin at 1.

I removed "Link to Previous" and "Same as Previous". I should be able to insert MANUAL NUMBERS in the footer, but this is WORD after all.

Perhaps you didn't understand my use of the word "manual"--meaning I don't want autonumbering. I don't want automatic numbering in any of the footers; therefore, to click on "#Page Number" and "Format Page Number" would give me automatic numbers--which I DO NOT WANT.

Thank you, though.

If all you want is to be able to enter page numbers "manually" (and that word is used if I recall correctly in at least one of the linked articles...) then simply open the footer as appropriate and type in whatever numerical system, progression, definintion you want on whichever page?

Simple typing of alpha-numeric text/content...

It's how I've done it the past when not using the add, format etc. page numbers options in top menu bar and elsewhere.

Otherwise I guess I'm too dim to understand what you want ... at which point I shall retire for night...
