how to configure thunderbird

July 6, 2016 at 13:00:37
Specs: widows 10, 2.2 GHz
I have laptop and desktop, I use gmail with Thunderbird, everything works fine. I replaced my laptop hard drive with a smaller SSD drive. I had Thunderbird configured to download all messages on both computers (IMAP). Now I want to have all messages in a desktop as it is now and download only new messages in a laptop with same account (gmail). Is this possible, and how?

"I use gmail with Thunderbird"

You will need to play around with with your TB settings as a starting point.
Check > Leave mail on Server on both comps.
Uncheck Auto download on both comps, in other words, you manually click > Get messages.
So in your Server Settings, the first 4 boxes are unchecked.

I have my gmail web page open all the time in my browser.
You probably now have to go into your Gmail settings & make sure that all the mail stays undeleted.

If you can't get that to work the way you want, look in the Trash folder, click on the mail you want to put on the Laptop & mark as Unread.
Now manually download them onto the laptop.

For the feature you're requesting, you'd need to configure the email client to use the POP protocol rather than IMAP.

Doing the best I can here... And remember, there's always more than one path to success. :)
