Solved How to adjust drag & drop to work right?

October 24, 2017 at 13:29:18
Specs: Windows 10
I am having problems when I try to drag & drop and other various things like this. It will not drag the item, Link, etc. It will automatically go to that link if I highlight it to try to drag it. Almost anything I do like this will not work. I will have to do it 8, 10 times to finally get it to work. It's like it's very touchy. Really do not know how to explain it. Is there any where that I can go to and try to adjust it or anything. I am not tech savy at all.

I think your problem may lie with the way you drag. You mention "It will automatically go to that link if I highlight it to try to drag it. " Are you clicking then attempting to drag, or do you hold and drag?

No, I'm sure it's not me. Never had any trouble before and it does it all the time with my husband also. It started doing this a month or so ago. It does these odd things in all of the programs . Say, I can go to my bookmarks and highlight the one I want to move up or into a folder and as soon as I highlight it and try to drag it it will sometimes just go to that particular book mark link. It will sometimes grab the next link and move it, or just not do anything. You can move the curser over a page and sometimes it will open another page like I had clicked on it. When you play solitaire it will not grab the card to move it right. Sometimes it will drag two at a time. It's just crazy.

You may need to go to the mouse settings and make sure that it is set to open with a double click and the double click timing is not set too long (do not go too short or you may never get it to double click).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I am thinking like you guys that it is in the mouse or the settings. I will try to change it out like you said and check the settings. It just started all of a sudden and it seems like when I do updates that some of my things get changed. Maybe that could be it. Anyway, thanks for trying to help.

I did get a chance to check the mouse settings and they seemed to be right. I kind of played with them some. It may take me a day or so to have a chance to change out the mouse and check that out but I will get back to evereyone and let you know how it went. Thanks again.

I'd be very surprised to learn that it is anything other than
the left mouse button. I got an additional three or four years
out of my favorite mouse by supergluing a bit of wire on top
of the worn plastic part that presses on the microswitch.

Well, I went and bought a new mouse, and that was the problem. The old mouse was doing all kinds of weird things and you would need to try 8-10 times to get it to do what it was suppose to do. The new mouse is doing perfect. I guess I wore that mouse out LOL. Thank you all for the help and suggestions. Take care.

Johnw,

Yes, mice always need to be cleaned.

However, the problem in this case is almost certainly with the
primary button, which usually means the left button. The part
of the button that contacts the microswitch wears away and
is no longer thick enough to hold the microswitch down all the
time it is being pressed by a finger.

Also, the page you linked to has an alarming error. It refers to
a ball mouse having "a set of 3 rollers." A ball mouse has only
2 rollers. The person who wrote that must have been writing
from memory, which was no better than Donald Trump's.

Probably counts the 2 small rollers & the large ball. They all roll.

AAAUUUGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

My mistake.

Many ball mice do have three rollers, including the one
shown on that web page. The third roller helps the ball
roll more freely, and presses it against the other two
rollers that generate the signal. I forgot about the third
roller because it is so different from the first two, in form
as well as function.

Arrrrgghhhh. Arrrrrggghhhhh. And arrrrrgghh.
