Specs: Windows 10, e4400 intel/2gb
How do I remove malware www.adviceintent.com from Microsoft Edge browser? I have run freeware versions of: AdwareRemovalTool by TSA, Revo Uninstaller, and also UnHackMe. None of these seems to find this malware program that launches a SafeSearch search tab in Edge. [No other browser is infected after using Revo Uninstaller.]

Thanks much,
Serob48

You didn't use the right software. Run all three:

JRT: https://www.malwarebytes.com/junkwa...

Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcle...

Malwarebyte's Antimalware: https://www.malwarebytes.com/

And it wouldn't hurt to download/install CCleaner-Slim & use it regularly: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/b...

- and use the manual/custom installtion option - NOT the default automatic option. Watch for any pre-checked boxes and clear them all - apart from the one for the utilty to be installed. This way you will avoid installing all manner of "stuff" and changes you neither need nor want; much of it a true PIA to eradicate.

To rider and trvir -- been away a week. Now looking at these responses. I have run the malwarebytes programs--all 3--twice. MS Edge stillcomes uo withthe "adviceintent.com" program in a tab that launcghes the SafeSearch search engine.

I also notice that I cannot set Chrome as my default browser, no matter how many times I attempt to in Windows 10 settings. --not sure if this is a SafeSearch infestation related problem.

I will try the cclearner-slim program later today.

Tp trvir -- what manual install -- not sure what to install -- the malwarebytes and CCleaner? And ues, I I did make sure to uncheck any unwanted free-riding misc. programs.

Thx. Still working on issues above.

Thanks much,

See if this helps you:
https://www.howtogeek.com/237527/ho...
Just clearing all history options may be enough to clear out the add on.

If not then run Tweaking.com:
http://www.tweaking.com/content/pag...
Follow all pre-scan steps and run it in Safe Mode.
Since Edge is an integral part of Windows 10 then repairing Windows 10 system files, etc. should fix it all.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Run tweaking.com pre-scan steps in just Run the program?

Then, run something else in Safe mode as in after PC reboot?

Complex for me...can you break this down, more?

Thanks much,

I don't use Edge but if it's like Internet Explorer, there in an option in settings to select what page/pages to load when launched. Have you checked in the settings to see if an entry for the page is there?

Download and run tweaking.com.

Ideally run it in safe-mode if possible.

Let it run its whole sequence/all its options.

MS Edge ***STILL*** infected with SafeSearch launching program called adviceintent.com that opens in its own tab.

So far have tried freeware versions of: MalwareBytes (all 3), AdwareRemovalTool by TSA, Revo Uninstaller, UnHackMe--along with its "Reset Edge" utility, CCleaner, and lastly the tweaking.com full scan/fix in Safe mode.

All unsuccessful. Be warned about the TWEAKBIT suite -- that's the one that introduced SafeSearch/adviceintent.com to my PC.

I think I will have to carefully save all the data that I can and reload Windows 10 from scratch. Do all of you helpful people agree with this at this point? It is too bad. I remember its a little challenging to get everything loaded back to HD the way I like it. So, any last suggestions?

Thanks much,

Never heard of AdwareRemovalTool by TSA...

Try this utility - one we regularly recommend here:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/do...

Also download/run JRT - Junkware Removal Tool. It will install to the desktop from where yo run it. It opens into a small dos style window; follow the instructions there in. IT will reboot the system as part of its processing.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/do...

As always - install anything downloaded from the web via the manual/custom option, and watch for all those irritatingly pre-checked boxes - and uncheck them...

Unlikely at this stage but, per chance do you have any restore points predating the arrival pf the nuisance?

To THX 1138 ... The adviceintent.com program that launches the SafeSearch malware is not listed as a page I wish to load. It was installed somewherre into the Windows 10 and/or Edge by an uncerful install of tweakbit.com (not tweaking.com) and I remember selecting to instal the wonderful SafeSearch for safer searching -- dumb move on my part.

Got it off main browser Chrome, but, still working on removal from Edge. If I cannot, I will just stop ever using Edge.

Thanks much,

To trvir...the bleepingcomputer program is Malwarebytes AdwCleaner.

Already tried that one. Looks like I will just not use Edge browser.

Thanks to all for suggestions.
