How do I unsuspend Cortana?

July 28, 2020 at 13:44:50
Specs: Windows 10, 4GB
When I removed the Cortana icon from the task bar, I didn't realize I'd be punished by having Cortana deactivated (suspended). Specifically, I am no longer able to type anything into the Cortana search field near the lower left corner of the screen.
What do I need to do to restore this capability?

Why would you even want Cortana? Just click the start button & start typing your search word.

I did pretty much the same thing and got the same
surprising unwanted result.

I say "pretty much" because it sounds like you did something
fairly simple to remove Cortana. I did a whole mess of things,
trying to remove her completely. I wasn't successful. Most
of Cortana is still hanging around. But Search is gone.

howagood,
Please reread my original response.

Allow me to try again...
Step 1. click the start button
Step 2. type your search word or term

And just to clarify, notice that I didn't say anything about having to enter the word or term in a search box or search field. Just start typing...

I get a message that "Something went wrong".

When I disabled Cortana I was trying to leave the Search
function intact. It didn't work.

Okay, here is what I just did.
Clicked the Windows button.
By default, the cursor is in the search field located at the lower left of the screen.
I attempted to type "control panel."
Result: The cursor did not move. Nor did any of what I typed appear in the field.

I disabled Cortana on all my PCs running Win10. I have no search field. I just click the Start button, the Start Menu pops up, the cursor remains hovering over the Start button, & I type. For instance, if I just hit "C", I get - CCleaner, Calculator, Control Panel, Command Prompt, along with numerous other choices.

Or how about this? Don't use the mouse at all, just hit the Windows key on your keyboard to bring up the Start Menu, then hit "C" & see what happens.

As I indicated previously, nothing. It doesn't matter what character(s) I attempt to type. It/they don't appear, nor does the cursor advance to the right.
