How do I get the free Windows 10 files off my computer? I recently installed the free Windows 10 OS to my computer. My laptop went haywire. Most of all problems was that I had no sound at all. I finally figured out how to go back to Windows 7 Home edition. My question is, now that the Windows 10 is downloaded to my computer, it keeps wanting to install it again in Windows update. I want to know if there is a way to remove it completely from my computer? Please help.

Hmm - it's a bit new for all of us. However, if you search for update KB3035583, uninstall it and restart the computer it might do the trick. If it does then hide the update.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly but I am not trying to get rid of the icon. What I am asking is..When I downloaded W10, all the files were put somewhere on my computer (temporary folder or something) until I installed it. I had problems so I uninstalled it and went back to W7. Are all those files still on my computer just waiting to be reinstalled? And if so, how do I get them off so I can clear up that space?

I thought uninstalling that update might stop it wanting to install again, which is something you mentioned.

As for the file clearing exercise then I've no idea. I'm waiting a while before installing Win 10 as there are often big bugs at first. I suppose a date/time search might reveal something if you show al files in Folder Options, but you would have to be careful what you remove.

The other possibility, now you are back to Win 7, is a System Restore back to a date/time before you installed Win 10.

Thanks again for getting back so quickly. Ok, I went in and did the hide thing in Windows Update and now I shouldn't see it. I don't really know about all the file deleting, lol, I think I will just see how it goes. I tried to figure out how to get my sound to come back before I uninstalled W10 but all the articles I went to just sent me around in circles. Yes, I did go back to a time and date before I installed it. Everything seems to be ok now. If I could figure out how to have sound with it, I would probably reinstall it. Thanks again for your time.

Go into Control Panel > "Device Manager" and see if there are any errors showing for your sound device in "Sound Video & Game Controllers".

If so (or even if not so) you could right click the entry and select Uninstall. If it asks whether you want to uninstall the software, SAY NO. Next restart the computer.

This is not like an uninstall in the normal sense of the word. It just releases the software so that when you restart the computer it will "find new hardware" and set it up again. It can often do the trick.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
