Hewlett-packard / P7-1436s

Specs: Win10, 3.0 ghz/6 Gigs RAM
Computer hijacked by edge/bing. I cannot open Firefox browser, when I opened my computer this evening it said I had been updated. I tried to start Firefox and it was unable to start. I got a full screen Bing page. I opened Edge and downloaded Firefox and tried to reinstall it but got an error message that problem occurred and error message sent. I was able to install Opera but I really don't like it and cannot find stuff in it. I don't like Edge either for same reasons. I can open Thunderbird.

Uninstall Firefox again using Geek. Don't rush it.

Geek Uninstaller

Just Double click on the program in Geek, that you want to uninstall. If it opens a web page, close the web page & then wait for Geek to present the 2nd step.

The Edge browser is part of Windows 10. The original version of Edge, now called "Edge Legacy", is being replaced by a new version of Edge based on Chromium, now called "New Edge" or "Edge-Chromium". It's being pushed out by Windows Update. Bing is Microsoft's search engine so of course it's the default in Edge. I doubt your system was hijacked or hacked, it's simply Microsoft being Microsoft.

"I tried to start Firefox and it was unable to start. I got a full screen Bing page."

It sounds like Firefox actually started otherwise how did the Bing page load? When the Bing page was open, did you try opening a different tab & then closing the Bing page? If you're going to try to reinstall Firefox, make sure you download it directly from Mozilla.

Just to make sure things are crystal clear. Bing is a search engine which can be set as your browser home page if you wish. You can choose any search engine you like.

Edge, Firefox. and Opera are "Browsers". Any can be used although MS kinda push you towards Edge.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Useful and nice clarification by Derek; so often the two items get mixed up/konphused in peole's understanding.

I restarted computer and got Firefox up. Bing was indeed the new home page. I have changed it. Firefox seems to be working properly now, Thank you all for your assistance. I have tried Chromium, Edge and Opera and they all seem the same and are not user friendly so I stick with Firefox.
