Specs: Windows 10
My HP Officejet 6600 was printing normally. Now when I ask it to print it asks me to save the file and still will not print.

Does this happen with all sites etc.; as in from say Word, Excel and websites etc.?

What are the printer default settings currently?

Have you tried unplugging the power cord then inserting it again?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Use the File> Print - command. Is your printer name shown under Name? If not that is a drop down list. Change to your printer name. If all works then, go to the printer settings and set your printer to the default printer. Sounds like your curent setting is either print to file or a PDF printer.

In Windows Search, type Devices and Printers, select to open.
Right click on your printer, check both Printer Preferences and Printer Properties for the check box "Print to File", uncheck this, Apply, OK.
Then go to each program you print from (Word, Excel, Web Browser, Email Client, etc.), select print on a file and make sure that in the print preferences within the print box there is no check under "Print to File", uncheck if it is there and print something. Repeat for at least a couple of programs to be sure it does not resurface. After that it should continue printing correctly.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

This issue could occur if the drivers are not installed properly or the correct printer is not selected as default.

I suggest that you check in the printers folder if the working printer is selected as default and also if the printer is powered on.

To choose a default printer, select the Start button and then Settings. Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners > select HP Officejet 6600 printer. Then select Set as default.

If the issue still persists, you can try uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing any one of the following:

(a). Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.

(b) From the Start menu or the Start screen and open Devices and Printers. Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window. Click on the Drivers tab.

2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
3. Click the Remove button.
4. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Basic Driver

Hope this info is helpful.

Generally better (wiser?) to download and use drivers from a given manufacturer’s website, rathan third party sources. In this case it’ll be hp of course.

(Be careful not to download the sauce by mistake..., as it will really gum up the works; but it tastes OK.)
