Format issue from newby

December 20, 2019 at 19:37:02
Specs: Windows 10 Pro
I have an HP Pavilion A6000n with Windows 10 pro HP Pavilion. Hooked to a Sylvania flat screen TV for the monitor . I get "Not supported format" displayed on boot up. Just the other day it was working after I adjusted resolution lower but the computer was needing Windows update and not I cannot boot correctly. I cannot get back to screen to readjust resolution (lack of know how).

Try/borrow another monitor & see if that can display.

I think I got it. I used recovery mode and started with low resolution on start. Working now. We'll see if it stays that way. Leaving resolution at 1024 x 768 for now. After a few days if still going well maybe I'll try 1280 x 1024.

Well, that worked until I rebooted it. Now back to same thing. Will try again tomorrow.

If you can't get it to work, via a different resolution, see if you have an option to change the Screen refresh rate.

On the Display page, scroll to Advanced display settings on the right hand side.
On the Advanced display settings page, click on > Display adapter properties.
Click on the Monitor tab.
Now you will see > Screen refresh rate.

You told us nothing about the TV other than the brand. Is it 720p, 1080p, or 4K? How are you connecting it...VGA? The a6000n is an awfully old tower (circa 2007) that originally came with Windows Vista. How long have you have been running Windows 10 on it? Were you able to find all the necessary drivers? Did you update to a newer graphics card or are you still using the integrated graphics?
