External monitor not recognize on Win10, but power saving.

Specs: Windows 10 Pro 1607, i7-6700HQ / 8 GB
When shutting down my PC yesterday I was informed of a Win10 update. The next morning I learned that now my external monitor does enter power saving mode, although the day before it worked just fine as an extended screen. The LG Flatron W2361V is connected through a DVI cable on the HDMI connection with a DVI - HDMI adapter on my MSI GE62 6QF. The Laptop does not recognize anything connected in the Windows Display Settings, but unplugging the cable makes my external monitor prompt me to "CHECK SIGNAL CABLE". Any advice on how to solve this problem?

The monitor isn't the problem, the laptop is. Completely shut it down, then restart.

Yes, Everything on the laptop works as usual. I dont have any alternative cables available right now, but Ill try to check that in some days. I was hoping there would be some known issue with any recent updates.

"No signal" means the monitor isn't receiving anything from the laptop. I doubt the cable is the issue; most likely the Win10 update caused the problem. Check your display settings to make sure the external monitor is recognized & configured correctly.

Do you know which functions keys are used to toggle between the laptop screen & external?

I would describe myself as pretty tech savvy, so yes, I do know. The strange thing is, that Windows does not detect an external screen. When plugging in, the only change is the monitor entering power saving mode.

I have updated my nvidia driver to 372.90 with no changes to my problem.
