Edge: How to specify page to open in new tab?

May 23, 2018 at 02:23:01
Specs: several
When I click the + sign to open a new tab in Edge, it opens
a page with the question "Where to next?" and a search box.
How can I tell Edge to open a specific page instead, such as
my home page?

looks like you can only choose from the following 3

top sites & suggested content
top sites
blank page

perhaps an edge extention could do the trick:

Not an answer to your question but you could always put a link to your home page as an icon in the Favorites bar and go to it there, from wherever you are.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Derek,

Will that open in a new tab? Or can I arrange it to do so?

I'm not a regular Edge user but it will open in exactly the same way as a Favorite. It's just that the Favorites bar can use small dedicated icons which go straight there without using drop-downs.

It is on most other browsers too, including IE and Firefox (Called Bookmarks Toolbar). You just have to invoke the menu bar. Try it and see what you think.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I'm not a Win10 user, nor would I use Edge is I was a Win10 user, but I was able to find several suggestions on how to configure the new tab behavior in Edge just by doing a simple search. If I could find them, it seems you should be able to too. Time to bone up on your Google skills.

Before I posted I did a search. Here is one of the hits.
161 replies. The first post was apparently edited after
4 months and again after 8 months to update readers on
progress or lack thereof in getting an answer. Take a look
at the first four posts. The fourth is from the original poster,
commenting on the second post, which was a reply from
Microsoft.

riider,

Do any of the suggestions you found actually work?

If so, what did you search for?

How many results did you have to look at to find one that works?

How far did you have to read before you got to the solution?

Most of the search results I got just explained how to change
the standard settings in Edge. Useless.
