Why can't you activate Windows 10?

You can install Windows 8 any time. You then have to upgrade it to Windows 8.1. After you have all the follow-up updates you should get the Windows 10 taskbar reservation notification. When MS will actually provide the update has not been made fully clear. You just sit tight until it arrives.

If you are trying to minimise the Windows 8.1 > Windows 10 update wait time then presumably waiting longer will put you nearer the top of the queue.

ok,
i've installed my licensed windows 8.1 en pro again.

when i download the 64 bit windows 10 tool and press upgrade nothing happens after the download.

im confused. you said that i first need to upgrade and then to make fresh install if i wish.
or perhaps i need to wait for the task bar icon to appear?

I assumed you had Win 8 as per spec. That has to be upgraded to Win 8.1 first. In your case as you started with Win 8.1 (your #3) then you should get the upgrade icon as part of normal Windows Update.

Look out for update KB3035583.

ok, i still don't see KB3035583. i will wait.
it also says that i'm getting updates automatically so perhaps i can't grab this update until they offer it to me.

at the end the windows tool that i've downloaded did its thing and upgraded me to windows 10.

just to be sure again... if i will now make a fresh install with the media creation tool then i will be able to license my windows 10?
