Micro decided they would rename "My pc" to "this Pc" . Does it make any difference if I add New apps into c: or "This Pc" ??
Computers "usually" have a name - which can be assigned when initially setup (an operating system installed); and it can be changed at any time. It represents the box which has all the bits installed...; and that name can be used over a network to identify that particular computer. Using the current name for your - This PC...
This PC is not where software is actually installed - that's not a hard drive; it's just the name of box/computer where hardware (Harddrives, Solid State Drives, DVD/CD drives, RAM etc.) is physically located.
C: is the name of the Primary partition on your hard drive; and that's where software usually goes by default. You can change where software goes at anytime during the installation of an individual software installation.
If you open file manager or windows explorer you won't see the name This PC at the head of the list showing "My computer", and some other information - including My Documents - which is where "your" files are located. If you click on (as in open) My Computer via the icon in that list, and similarly via the icon (usually) on the desktop you won't see the name This PC there either. What you will see is a detailed list via My Computer of the drives etc. as well. - with icons - of what else it's found present; and also where "your" documents folder is located.
So - to answer your question - you install software to the C: drive/partition...
As I understand it - you cannot change the Windows MY Computer" to something else. But you can rename a given computer itself - which is presumably what Micro did? Incidentally who is Micro and why did they elect/choose to change the name of "your compute without apparently consulting you first or explaining why?
It used to be called "My Computer", then changed to "My PC", then changed to "This PC". Why is this an issue? All apps are installed on C:\ in either Program Files or Program Files (x86) unless you specifically direct them to install elsewhere.
Guess I'm a wee bit out of date when it comes to M$ naming "My Computer". Tak to jam for the update. (I'm on Macs these days). Otherwise we both agree where installations go (usually by default).
Or put another way, My Computer or This PC give you direct access to major areas, including your drives. You load your apps as per jam's response. EDIT:
OK - I'VE GOTTEN YOU OUT OF YOUR Jam in time.message edited by Derek
