Have you checked the charger?

What was the fix for the other D830s that did this?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Is this a genuine Dell battery? If so, contact Dell customer support.

The battery was in the computer, but I bought the computer used so I am uncertain what battery it is. Thank you.

If a battery does not charge it can be only a couple of things.
The battery is bad. --- Try another battery.
The power cord/charger is bad. --- Trying the laptop with the battery removed and the laptop plugged in might give you some idea if it runs but if the voltage is low, it might run the laptop but not charge the battery. Try a new charge cord.
The charge circuit/power board in the laptop is bad. --- It needs factory service or a new power board (if separate from main board).
Try another outlet in the house (strange but might help).

If you just purchased it used from a store or online retailer, take/send it back under any minimal warranty since it is not working properly.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Replaced the battery and tried a different charger so you are probably right about it being a hardware problem. I do appreciate your trying to help me on this and thank you.
