Solved Can’t connect to internet

December 7, 2020 at 20:41:53
Specs: windows 10 , i5
Can’t connect to Internet with either WiFi or Ethernet cable on my asus laptop. Other devices are able to connect. Did troubleshooting , said something about driver or hardware related problem. Maybe an update caused this.

Good to hear you fixed it. That occasionally is all that's required when no can connect to the internet - particularly with wifi I've found, but of course even with ethernet too.

Note generally that for Windows 10 it is more effective to do what you did (Restart) than shutting down and starting up again. Not so with earlier MS systems.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

What is the difference between restart and shut down/start up again: as in what actually happens in restart that does/doesn't happen in shut down/power up?

Not a win-10 user (I is a Mac user) , but considering getting a basic win-10 laptop, would be useful to know such subtle nuances...

Hi.

Win 10 has a quick start up facility that follows a stored algorithm based on last use.

When you do a "Restart" it does not follow this algorithm so it is a cleaner (but slower) start.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Ah... which means I presume (not ASSume...) that if there was an issue which became part of the last stored algorithm then a restart wouldn't be bothered by that; and thus, as you say, a cleaner problem free (re)start?

Yep, that's all it is.

@ Derek: tak for the explanation. Have seen it recommended a few times (restart rather than power cycle) and didn’t know why.it worked.
