Are you asking about an HP computer? Because the Asus "Benicia" is a board used by HP/Compaq. It has 4 DDR2 memory slots, max 2GB per slot, for a total max of 8GB. Specs can be found here:

Your processor can run 64-bit Windows, but it would need to be a new install rather than an upgrade. Do you have more than 4GB of RAM (or do you intend to fit more RAM)? If not then there is no real advantage to be gained.

In that case there is little point in upgrading to 64-bit Windows.

X86 doesn't necessarily mean 32-bit. The Core 2 Duo E8400 is a 64-bit CPU, so it's also known as an X86-64 processor.

Did you do any research to find out if that info is correct or not? Maybe you were told not to install more than 3GB RAM because you're running a 32-bit OS, rather than because of a hardware limitation? Post the make/model of your computer or motherboard. If you don't know what you have, try using CPUZ.
