Is there a way of making a file, say a Word file, open in a separate browser window? I have seen the target="_blank" attribute of the anchor tab, but what I'm after is making the file come up in its OWN application window rather then be embedded in the browser window? How do you do this? Thanks!

You need to save the file to your hard drive first. Then open it in an appropriate application.

I was more talking about when you have a hyperlink and the href is an actual file instead of a web address. When you do this over the internet, the file opens in it's resepective associated application. I have a Word file that is the hyperlink and I click on it and it starts a browser window with the file embedded in the browser. I want it to start stand-alone in it's own app window. If I remember right, I think it's a setting not in the HTML, but in the browser. I remember being able to do this a few years ago; I don't know if you still have this option with today's browsers.
