What do you mean by "include statement"?

You can have server-side includes, which are easy, or you can create client-side includes with javascript. This limits the browsers that it will work with as people may be using a browser that doesn't support javascript, or have it disabled. Server-side includes are the way to go. Have a look at: http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creat...

Perhaps if you explain your requirement it would be easier to suggest a solution.

I have used <!-- #include file ="filename" --> and used the virtual as well. I have tried .js .php .inc and .html . These all show up in dreamweaver CS5.5 when I us the F12 function but when I go live they do not work.
I am at a loss as to where to go next to try to get this function to work . Mt ISP has an Apache server and I have asked him to check to see if it supports the include function.

✔ Best Answer
Are you saving the files (the ones in which you are using the <!--#include directive) with the extension .shtml? This may be necessary, depending upon the configuration of the web server.

I am saving the files with the extension .shtml and it makes no difference. I am thinking that the server does not support the include statement so I will go back to the long way of doing everything. Thanks for all your help. I have learnt many new ways of doing things through this. Cheers
