I really don't even know where to start searching for this because I don't really know what to search for on it.

I am trying to set up like an answering machine system sort-of thing for me and a couple friends so we can leave messages for each other. I can make the Input form, but what I want is an input box at the top with a submit button to the side of it, and when you click submit, that entry is added to the top of a list of previous messages with a time stamp, and then log this so that someone else can go to the same page and see the messages that were left by others.

Is there a way that I can do this? Thanks!

There is a somewhat similar tutorial here:

To simplify the whole thing you could bypass the ajax/jquery part of it. You could also bypass having a database and just append new messages to a text file.

So you'd have page1.php that would have the input form at the top and would iterate over the posts at the bottom. And then a submit.php which would take the input and append it to a file, with a timestamp. And then redirect you back to page1.php

If you haven't done much with PHP before you should take it slow, by looking up how to do each thing separately, like just submitting something first.
