Solved dreamweaver or Flash

June 11, 2011 at 07:32:35
Specs: Macintosh
I am in the process of setting-up a new website for a small company. Although i have little experience with Flash i am seeing thet Dreamweaver might be the better choice to build a site in. This is mainly due to Flash's inability to allow search engine "crawlers" to search through the site. Is this also the case wth Dreamweaver. A priority for the Site is of course that potential clients will be able to find it easily.

Thanks!

You're right. Web crawlers don't understand Flash, so if your whole site is in Flash, they won't index a thing. Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG editor, which means you drag-and-drop elements onto the page and adjust their settings using menus and whatnot. I don't know how good Dreamweaver is now, but in the past it was very limiting to how the web page could be adjusted and it poorly conformed to web standards.

I suggest you write the HTML & CSS yourself. It allows you maximum customization and you learn more about web development that way. Developing a web page can be done in a simple text editor like Notepad. Do not use Microsoft Word. I like to use Notepad++. It's like Notepad on steroids with awesome features like syntax highlighting, line numbering, and spell check.

Thanks for your reply! I will look into it. Writing everything in HTML or CSS seems a bit daunting though, seeing i am relatively new to programming in general.

Thanks again!

why compare dreamweaver and flash? both are for different purpose!

As suggested by Xps86, you should use dreamweaver and can avoid flash.
