variables in unix korn shell

Specs: Windows XP
Can I set a variable in the unix korn shell to the time? I'd like to set up separate variables for the hours and minutes.

In ksh, use command substitution, $(..), to set the output of a unix command to a variable:

myvar=$(date '+%M:%S')
