Unix executable file mac

Apple MACBOOK PRO

Specs: MacOSX 10.6.2
I have recently acquired a DVD with a number of images
on it, each about 2.2Mb. These have all been stored as
unix executable files and no application on Mac OSX will
run them. I have tried changing their suffix to .jpg or
.tiff, with no joy. How can i open these files without
having to buy Virtual PC?

Without knowing what application created the images (and hence hinting at what format they may be in) it is difficult to suggest an OS X equivalent.

How do you know they're images??

In terminal, go to the /Volumes/DVDNAME folder & do:

file *

What type of file does it detect??
