I was searching an UNIX emulator so that I can use it to refresh the basic UNIX commands and I found a number of free emulators out there, such as CygWin, UWin, Microsft UNIX tools(Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications)... ... It seems they are all popular, but not sure which is more stable with the host system and cause less hassle. Would anyone give somem suggestions? Thanks.
If your requirement is to learn and play with UNIX commands, I would be inclined to install a lightweight Linux distribution in a VirtualBox VM, thus avoiding interaction with your Windows system. That way you can't mess up your Windows installation up with unfamiliar command. But if, for some reason, you wish to actually run the UNIX commands within your Windows system, and interact with files there, then I think any of the ones you mention are fine. CygWin is widely used for this purpose.
Thanks very much. ijack
VM would be ideal solution. I have got it on at work for a while. I rarely use it with UNIX, but windows OS instead. Surely I don't wanna mess up with the host OS. what I'm gonna do is to limit everything in a folder and remove afterwards.
Appreciate your comments!
