Hi,
I have a application which is running on a unix server, it doesn't have any database, everything is stored as a flat files.
We use to send a file everyday to vendor for some settelement procedure. My job is to check the logs everyday and send a mail to the clients with the settlement amount and the time of delivery of the file which is actually captured in logs. Now i need to write program to automate it. The purpose of the program should be to monitor the logs and get those info daily and send an mail automatically. the logs are written after completion of an control m job. ie the control m job will kick of a program which will send those files to vendor. Please let me know if you need more info...

Well, we need to know the structure of the log files. Post a sample of the data you're trying to extract from.

You would:

Use CRON to run the script every few minutes (or whenever)
Extract the data using CUT, AWK, GREP, or PERL
Pipe the data to SENDMAIL to send the e-mail

It's actually very simple...but without knowing the format of the log file you're trying to parse, we can't help you much more.
