Need help installing Unix software in Windows

Specs: Windows 7
Runing Windows 7 would like to install a Unix server to practice comands.

What do you suggest.

Install VirtualBox. Then set up a virtual machine with the UNIX that you want to run. Linux is pretty close to UNIX, but if you want the real thing then go for FreeBSD or Solaris. If any of those names are unfamiliar to you just Google them.

I need something very basic to practice unix commands. My boss thinks Virtual box may be too advanced for me.

if you can suggest something that doesn't interfer with Win. 7 and can be downloaded for free.

Try the cygwin package located free at

http://www.cygwin.com

It's a collection of unix commands for windows. It also provides a shell so it'll give you a feel for a *nix type environment. I haven't tried it for Win7, but these guys have been good in the past.

I have to say that your boss is wrong (but don't tell him I said so). VirtualBox is very easy to use. But you know your abilities better than I do.
