Help in sed command

Hi Friends,
Can any one please explain what the below command is doing? Thaks in advance

sed -e 's/XI=\( \{1,4\}[0-9]*[.][0-9][0-9]\)\( \{5\}\)/XI= \1/g' \

Hello Vasu,

sed -e 's/XI=\( \{1,4\}[0-9]*[.][0-9][0-9]\)\( \{5\}\)/XI= \1/g' \

probably to substitute XI=...... to some other expression
-e is for script - no filename is mentioned here.
\ in the last suggests that the command is incomplete (probably in the next line of your doc)
