Would hosting software archive site pay off?

Specs: Linux Mint 7
Awhile ago I had an idea for starting a software archive site (similar to what Major Geeks has, and Oldversion.com have). Would this be a worth while investment, or am I wasting my time seeing as how there's so much software already on download.com and major geeks in general. I was mostly planning on archiving virus removal tools linking back to their perspective sites (I.E. Hitman Pro, TDSS Killer, Gmer, Avast, Esage Lab's Bootkit Remover, etc) and basically other tools that many are not aware of. I'm not planning on making a lot of money from a site like this, but, it's just an idea.

I was also thinking of linking to How-To's on how to remove malware (Bootkit's, Google Redirects, Anti-Virus Pro, etc), but, again. That might not even be worth it, so maybe I'd be better off providing resources (links) to sites that have those tutorials?.

If you have a bunch of money!!! You need a great developer for your site or you'll not see any business. You'll need to be insured out the wasoo. You'll need a lot more than a laptop or two. I'd guess at least a couple good sized servers. Just a round ball park figure I'd say 50 - 60 thousand to get started. Anything less than that I don't see you having the equipment to keep up if you get a good amount of business. Hey though keep asking this same question just reword it now and again as you have been doing and eventually someone will give you the answer you are looking for.

Most software is NOT Abandonware. Therefore, what do you hope to host anyway.

There have been many sites that have tried this and have been shut down. Programs might be considered obsolete by some but still have copyright protection.
