Tom's System Scanner not working
I get an error that Tom's System scanner has an unknown publisher and that it will be blocked in future releases.

http://www.computing.net/systemscan...

However, it won't run even now. I clicked the box to accept the risk and run the application. I wonder what could be preventing it from working. My Java is completely up to date.

The issue is a generic safety one. Your computer recognizes that an illegitimate website could harm you computer. To prevent this it is blocked on all sites, even the ones intending to help. It ran just fine on mine, although the standard warning appeared.

If you feel uncomfortable with allowing it to scan, I would suggest imputing the specs manually, or when you have a topic that needs information be thorough in what you post

Seems odd that it still didn't run when you accepted the so-called risk.

I'll ask the webmaster (Justin Weber) if he can throw any light on it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi,

It looks like the script won't run anymore just because Oracle has changed the way Java works. Unfortunately, we don't really have a way to get the developer who built this a long time ago to update it. I'm going to have to take down the links.

Thanks for letting me know!

Don't be so quick to remove the links just yet. It's possible it still works in Java 5.x and 6.x. I'll let you know when I get home tonight.

If the issue is due to the new model in Java 7.x, it would still be useful to users using Windows 98 and later with Java 5.x and later.

sdfox 7,

I agree, but, it would be odd to keep a system up like that that is only good for a few select users. Besides which, there have been quite a few other issues reported with the system. It really needs to be rebuilt or taken down. Its not very good service to leave something up with so many bugs.
