What kind of entry level IT can i get?

Specs: Windows XP
I don't have any official working background in IT. My degree is in finance. I am pretty computer literate and know the basics, but as of now that is it. Despite this, I want to get into the IT career field. I am about to start my a+ certification, and am looking at going back to school for a second degree in IT. Career or job wise, what do you guys think I could get entry level with just my background now and an a+ cert? Then once I finish school, what kind of entry level career/jobs do you all think I would qualify for? It seems like every job I've seen want a lot of experience

The more certs you get, the better... I do know that much. I am looking for similar things as you. www.certguard.com ranks sites based on their training and certification, I started there and so far I am happy! Still waiitng to actually take my tests tho... yikes!

I've worked in IT for nearly 14 years. In all that time, I've never seen an IT position advertised that didn't require previous experience. Most of the people I have worked with feel that the cert don't mean much without the ability to apply the knowledge, and the experience that goes along with the practical application.

My recommendation, go back to school; either a Technical School or a 4-year college, with an emphasis on Computing.

For a high school student looking to get an entry level IT job during high school/college, can i assume that getting a+ certification is a good idea? Or is it a waste of time?

I would say yes, an A+ certification is worth the money.

Most entry level jobs in IT are likely to include troubleshooting hardware issues, and when found, changing out parts. Or, if you get a job at a smaller computer store, you could be building custom PC's.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
