What is to become of Solaris?

August 3, 2010 at 13:29:23
Specs: Windows XP, Core 2
Ever since Oracle took over Sun Microsystems, they have been killing off one Sun project after another. Now the Solaris Road-map on wikipedia ends at Solaris 10. Is this the end of Solaris? Does anyone have any information on Solaris 11 (which was supposed to have been released already) ? Or is this the end of Solaris altogether???

Try not to set your watch on hearsay information that's 15 months old. Operating systems, and especially enterprise systems seldom launch when projected.

Business ain't gonna use a beta release that "mostly works" when their very life may depend on a polished and stable platform. Whether or not Oracle releases a newer version may remain to be seen but I'd just bet they know what they're doing.
