TV Station Idiots

I have long been angered by the insistence of some stations to run all their programs in letterbox, whether they were shot that way or not (You can tell because the actors and scenes are distorted.)

Now the FX network is blocking everything in in an even smaller square that's about 1/3 less than full screen on all four sides.

Are these places being run by 12 year olds?

There is an old adage that goes, "Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD."

Blockbuster lost a lot customers because they censored movies the thought were not suitable for a family store, but never told anyone unless they asked.

What is wrong with American businesses today? Have they no sense?

"Now the FX network is blocking everything in in an even smaller square that's about 1/3 less than full screen on all four sides."

Some of the stations I receive also broadcast a few of their shows in that annoying non-anamorphic mode. I think this is because quite a few people still use square tubes. These stations look like normal letterbox on square sets.

If your TV has a zoom feature, you should be able to fill the entire frame without cropping or distorting the image. Just change it back to standard mode for normal 16:9 HD or 4:3 SD, if the TV doesn't do that by itself.

Thanks for the explanation f the technical stuff, but it doesn't answer why these idiots really do it. Square TV's are OK. I have a newer set, but even still they've stolen some of my picture.

I've been thinking about starting a web site called "Boycott the Stupidity.com"

Put on the list Chris Mathews who never shuts up long enough to let a guest answer a question This comes from being so insecure that he has to keep going until he finally settles on the question he wants to ask or until he runs out of breath. Or how about the typist at CNBC today (6/11/10) who in a financial story type " Saudi Aravia." Or news personalities who read off a prompter with no idea what they are really reading. (Great shades of Ron Burgundy.)

The examples are almost endless. We need to make them pay a penalty and embarrass them until they clean up their acts.

I would be happy to join the boycott but then there would be but a few of us doing nothing but sending hand written letters by pony express to comunicate. My major problem with FX is the sound. I have one tv in our room that has none of that fancy stereo stuff attached to it. I am a bit older and maybe a little deaf so I have to turn the sound all the way up to hear the program. Then a commercial comes on and causes me to be a little more deaf. In the living room we have a tv with the fancy stereo stuff. I have literally had a window broken by a commercial on FX.

I'd also like to put Nancy Grace and Jane Velez on the list for their incessant use of exclamation points. No headline is too mundane for the use of a !!!!!!!!

I haven't caught Jane Velez but that Nancy Grace...........most of what I want to say if I do say my post will be withdrawn. It seems this .........woman for the lack of a more acceptable term takes the most insegnificant story and makes it personal. If some guy that we never heard of on some remote Island in the south pacific cheated on his wife she is going to loose it like he beat her and cheated on her personally. I didn't think I had any respect for this person until that story about the father of Palins daughters kid. Two questions, what business is any of this of Nancys and who is the person that is willing to pay her to prove that she should have kept her bloomin mouth shut. I am sure that is when I lost the last ounce of respect for her.

One can only hope. What a waste of skin and breath she is.
