The system scan wont work

October 25, 2009 at 08:14:20
Specs: Windows 7, AMD 2.3GHZ 2GB RAM
I have windows 7 and have just installed java.

I am new here and when i logged in i was asked to use the system scan to scan my pc.

I tried it. but when i press run nothing happens. or is it scanning in the background?

Hmm,

No, its not scanning in the background. You would know if it worked... it runs really fast. Is anyone else using 7? Does it work for them?

I think it may have something to do with 64 bit systems. Mine for whatever reason won't allow me to use 64 bit IE exclusively. So when I download Java ihave to use both 64 bit and 32 bit. This seems to cause problems with the scan. Not sure why. If I uninstall the 64 bit java it works.
Yes I am running Win 7 RC and Win 7 Retail on different systems with the same affect. I got the same issue before with XP 64 just skipped it and forgot about it.

Likely

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my lungs like the passengers in his car.

I just tried it again. I am using the Win 7 ultimate Rc computer. I got this

A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x692c6c71, pid=856, tid=3836

At the java forums I am told to upgrade my JVM. I have the latest. I am then told upgrade my ram I have 6 gbs.

Hey,

Perhaps its not compatible with 64-bit like you say. Either way, as of now, I don't really have the resources to fix this bug. Obviously, programming for all the various computers out there is much more hit or miss than programming websites.

Thanks for letting me know though,
Justin

I seem to remember this bombing on my Vista x64 box. I'll try it after I get off of work tonight, assuming I remember.

Still broken on my Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit with current Java. Tried both Firefox and IE.

Since it has been several months since this thread was started maybe ya'll could add the option to "enter own info", not just re-scan?

I tried mine again. I was able to get it to work before by uninstalling the 64 bit java. No go this time. If I use either 32 or 64 bit alone I get the java pop up and the security thing asking me if I trust CN more or less after that nothing. If I have both versions installed, which sun recomends, I can see the CN scanner flsh on the screen and that's it. Then I notice the new document added to my desktop entitled hs_err_pid3148. When I open it this is what I get:

Okay at this point I have even wiped java completely and reinstalled, gone back several versions, and have decided I have spent too much time on this. With some versions I get the error with either version and nothing with both. Some I get the error only when both are installed. Something just is not compatible and it's above my paygrade, lol, at the moment. So for now I give up.
