the reason i keep re-submitting my intended avatar

August 12, 2014 at 13:34:36
Specs: Windows XP, various (16+ computers)
the reason I keep re-sending my intended avatar is they keep cropping off the bottom. Since the symbol has meaning, it becomes meaningless when the bottom is cropped off. If "they" (someone) will explain how to avoid this truncation, I will arrange to re-submit a copy that won't be destroyed by the editor.
They keep inserting white space above the image, which pushes it down and out of the frame. Maybe I need small white-space at top?

Try saving it with a different editor?

Nah, "editor" was in reference to Tom's. I just used MsPaint to make/save the jpeg. Oh well, "they" did it again. I guess I'll give up and use that funky generic. The intended-avatar symbol, which resembles a knot, is a "not": infinity combined with zero.

Hi nbrane,

The avatar must be a square. If you upload a square sized avatar, it won't get cropped. The size it uses is 100x100, but anything that is square will be resized without cropping. Since it needs to be a square, if you upload something that isn't a square, it must be cropped. If you can use your image editor to shrink what you want to fit inside of a square, you should be able to put it up ok.

Thanks!
Justin

It wouldn't surprise me if CN's resizer/cropper is choking on how MS Paint saves the image. Have you tried first saving the image in Paint.NET, or even IrfanView?

Thanks, Raz and Justin: The mspaint was saved as 400x400 pxl (ie: square). So Razor, you're probably right. I don't have either option currently, but I'll see if I can obtain one of them. I realize it's a trivial issue, so I appreciate your time.
