If you don't have your settings right then all you need to do is click on your user name and you will see a list of all the threads that you recently participated in. That is how I found the thread linked above. I was not one of the folks helping you in that thread but I will thank you for posting back anyway.

FYI, click on My Home at upper right of this screen. If any threads you are active in have new responses they will be listed there. If no new responses but you wish to view or post in an older thread just click on "show all messages".

This forum is reserved for non-computer related posts. This post would qualify based on that criteria but the folks that helped you in some other thread may not see this post.

You would be surprised ,not thin skinned at all. Far from it . To those of you old enough to recall Hoss Cartwright from Bonanza . I am the modern version of Hoss with a cell phone and a lap top. I like neither ,but life says I must . Been fooling with this computer stuff for one year. So I have aways to go.

I remember Bonanza very well, My wife actually met Hoss when she was young. If 1951 is your birth date, I have you beat. I also played drums in a few blues bands.

As another one who didn't help on your original post, let me add my name to those who appreciate your thanks, by whatever method. It can be quite a rare thing around these parts, many posters not even bothering to come back at all.

I won't enter the age discussion because around this time they start grabbing folk off the streets for Santa Claus duties and they might think they've found the original.

I will own up to being only slightly smarter than a brick when it comes to computers ,but I do have other redeeming qualities. All I can do is try . I have moved past the how do I turn it on and where is my email . LOL Thats progress .

I wasn't trying to dress you down, but just tell you that if you wanted to thank the helpers in that thread you should do it in that thread.

To those of you old enough to recall Hoss Cartwright from Bonanza .

Modern Stuff. I'm old enough, and I am sure OtherHill is as well, to remember Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers, not to mention Gener Autrey. Hoss Cartwright was a latecomer.

I remember when all that was on TV was women's roller derby and when TV signed off there was a test signal displayed. That goes back to around 1952 or so.

I still watch Gunsmoke on Encore Western channel. Also show Gene Autry, Wagon Train, Have Gun Will Travel, The Virginian, Cheyenne, Maverick, Lawman, Bonanza.

Hi Guys - What is worrying is I remember many of the above shows.

Thought Hoss/Dan Blocker's passing was a loss.

Much enjoyed the film he did with Frank Sinatra. Think it was titled 'Lady in Cement'.

There again I liked Frank Sinatra as an actor, but was not a fan of his singing as it was not my style.

Regards.

I won't admit to remembering most of the shows mentioned above but I do remember when television channels signed off for the evening. I also seem to remember that when they did if you had fallen asleep on the couch while watching the tone that came on after signoff was loud enough to wake your parents and alert them to the fact that you had snuck back out to watch tv after you were supposed to be in bed. :-)

I still remember a commercial for 'lady in cement'. It was Dan Blocker warning his fans that he wasn't playing lovable Hoss but was playing the 'heavy'.

Before TV used to shut down for the night you'd get the sign-off sermon and then the star spangled banner.

"Before TV used to shut down for the night you'd get the sign-off sermon and then the star spangled banner."

Yeah, remember those days too. They ended around the late 70's/early 80's when networks and local stations had to start competing with 24-hour cable. Now we have wonderful infomercials to keep us awake all night on all 382 channels...

With those old TV's when you turned them off the dot used to vanished into the center of the screen. I used to do TV repairs but I never found any of those dots inside them.
I bet they'd be worth a fortune now.

I think those dots were reused in the Outer LImits intro--We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. . . or the end--We now return control of your television set to you. Seems like I remember seeing it then.

And just FYI, for anyone feeling "nostalgic" about sign-offs:

http://www.tv-signoffs.com/

Found the ones for all the stations I received back in the "antenna-days". Most of them actually date from the late 80's to early 90's---didn't think they survived that long...
