ReRegulate the Airlines

Ronnie Reagan did away with regulation. Idiot.

Spirit airlines just announced it is going to start charging $45 for carry on luggage that has to go in the overhead compartment.

A trip that used to cost around $298 now costs closer to $500 with add on fees.

And don't try and tell me about the market setting the price. It doesn't work with an industry that has little to no competition.

Fly Southwest. At least they're close to being reasonable.

Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.

It's getting to the point where I think I'll leave my clothes home, buy some second hand stuff when I get there, donate it all back to charity before I leave and then take the tax write-off!

It'll probably end up costing me less than the baggage fees!

Several years ago I flew to Pittsburgh from N.W. Florida a couple times in 1 year. The first time I had a connecting flight in Nashville the second in Memphis. I don't fly often I have always preffered to drive myself. It use to be cheaper and I am sure since the airlines are all scrambling to suck as much blood as they can it will be cheaper again. Anyway the running joke here has always been that when you die you will have to go through Atlanta to get to heaven because even God is bound by the airlines. I had flown out of here maybe 10 times over the years and always had to go through Atlanta so it was different when I made the trips to Pittsburgh. The next year I had a relative pass away in Memphis, flying the same airline I had to go through Atlanta? I checked there were flights that connected in Memphis leaving here within minutes of my flight. I don't get it. Would it not been cheaper on them to put me on 1 of those flights?

Also I truly believe they think we the consumer are dumb. They have been in a price war for a while now, okay maybe that statement is a bit much but they have been competing by lowering flight costs. It cost us $90 less this year to send the wife on the same trip we do at the same time every year with the same airling, but the bags that she took last year for free now cost over $50. I guess we are not supposed to notice this. We shopped around because of this baggage issue and it was still the cheapest airline for what we were doing. With two other airlines we could have gotten at least one of the bags on the plane for free but the ticket price was a great deal higher.

Next year we are looking into UPS, DHL, Fed Ex, and the USPS to ship her bags.

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my lungs like the passengers in his car.
