Does any one know any good and reliable open source software, freeware if possible, that would let me build (develop) my customized point of sale software for a carpet shop?
Thanks

I like this one.

http://pages.prodigy.net/daleharris...

It's pretty simple; find an old DOS machine, install it, and use it. Slowest machine I've set it up on was a 486 with 4Mb memory and I use it now on a 486 laptop to keep track of my computer related inventory.

I think I cannot modify the source code of http://pages.prodigy.net/daleharris... becuase source code is not provided.

I need it to be an open source customizable system. That is to say, a point of sale system which was released to the market as an open source system which would allow anyone to adapt it to any retail shop needs by means of a programmer.

I want it to be customizable so that I can modify the source code and customize it like I can do for example with wordpress. Is there anything like that in point of sale (POS) software?

Thanks

You can develope applications in many database programs or
programming languages. I have worked with accounting systems
written in BASIC and dBase variants. Many earlier programs had
source code or data file formats provided so that modifications
were possible.
