Justin, just to let you know, I was a bit confused when the link for My Home moved from the top left of the page to the top right. I kept looking on the left and it was gone, LOL. Anyways, now the page opens right to the messages and that is much better for me. Before we had to click on the My Home link to access it. I like the new change. Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
Hey, I'm not sure what you mean... I'm pretty sure only changed the layout moving it to the right from the left.
Either way, I got the suggestion and thought it was a good idea. Makes more sense because that's how most sites have it.
Thanks,
Justin
Oh boy, now, every time I change post that annoying computing Survey ad comes up. Is there a way to disable that? Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
Yeah, what's with that friggin survey? Why does it have to continually pop up after every click? Click on The Lounge, it pops up...click on a post, it pops up...submit a reply, it pops up...confirm your post, it pops up...edit a reply, it pops up. And even if you take the survey, it keeps nagging you to do it again. BTW, what's the problem with the Hardware forum? Everything's overlapped on the right side.
Jam, sounds like you are using Firefox, it doesn't overlap with IE7 Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
I'm using IE7. I just tried Firefox & it works fine. Here's a cropped screenshot using IE7:
Hey, As for the survey ad, do you have cookies disabled or some sort of ad blocker running that might be blocking its cookies? It really is only supposed to show up like once every month and have very strict other limits.
As for the hardware forum, I tested in FF and IE6, 7 and 8 and didn't see that overlap. Is it still happening for you?
Justin
The survey ad pops up constantly, every time I click on something. My internet zone setting is on medium so some cookies are being blocked. I just changed it to "accept all cookies" & the survey ad stops, so I guess that explains it. The overlap is happening on both my PCs when using IE7. I just noticed it happens in the XP forum too. There is no problem when using Firefox.
... Ya I like the icons on the dropdown list were they there before? ... lol ... whilst browsing another forum I noticed a "(read number here view)" list on top of each thread page which was of interest to me as it gave the impression of sheer volume
... I posted a link of an info "source" page (Response 6) from were I had gathered "the solution" and their "hit" list on that page has grown considerably which one can see because of the view listing!
suggestion:
... I would like to see a view thread page hit listing in this forum Justin........... anyone?

Hi, The icons weren't there before no. In regards to showing the number of views for every forum thread, I'd rather not do that. Its not all that useful to the users, and gives out more information about the website then I think I'd like to make public...
As for the overlap jam is talking about, I'd venture to guess it is some sort of font sizing issue. I've never seen anything like that on any browser.
As for the survey ad, please direct all issues with that to this thread: http://www.computing.net/answers/th...
Justin
I have the same overlap when I use firefox, that's why I went back to IE and the dreadful survey. Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
Which version of firefox is it? It seems odd that it works fine for jam in Firefox and fine for you in IE? When did this start happening? Justin
"As for the overlap jam is talking about, I'd venture to guess it is some sort of font sizing issue. I've never seen anything like that on any browser" The only thing I can think of regarding fonts is that I changed the DPI settings after getting a new monitor. I wanted to run the default resolution but everything got too small, so I increased the DPI setting to Large (120 DPI). That was months ago though. But why would it only happen in only one or two of the forums?
I just ran thru the entire list of forums. The overlap occurs in Hardware, XP, Linux & Server 2003. Hardware is by far the worst. And the only major differnce I see from going from one forum to the next is the width of the Subject column.
"When did this start happening?"
It's been happening for a while now but not all the time. It seems to come & go. The only reason I mentioned it was because the survey popup was pissing me off. I was gonna post about it but jumped onto XpUser4Real's thread instead (sorry about that).
jam, Well, since its been happening a while, at the very least I know that the change I made switching the login buttons to the other side isn't what caused the problems.
I tried changing the DPI on my monitor and it didn't reproduce the error. Honestly, it might be really hard to track down and, even if I could figure it out, hard to fix as well.
Justin
... "Justin" ... when I open a page in this forum I get a dropdown overlap from "http://earthshare.org/" as this advert is at the top it tends to cover the first post although "transparent" I can read the post through the advert veil.
... annoying and sometimes happens randomly but its there! , "reloading" the page (refresh) does tend to sort it untill I hop to another thread, I do'nt have to be logged in.... worth a mention!
... anyone else have this problem? >>screenshot screenshot 2
... I'm using Firefox cookies cleared ... thx for your attention !
....edit/.. the dropdown appeared whilst editing this post too .../edit

mavis, I know there are some ads on the site that get bigger when you mouse over them :(
Is that what you are talking about? The only solution I can give to that is not to mouse over them.
Justin
... no the mouse is'nt near it (just rechecked) ... I can put up with it if no one else is having the problem!
... it goes if I hover the mouse over Specialty Forums + General Forums or Products but comes back when those dropdowns go!
