Solved Never received confirmation from Tom's Hardware

December 7, 2013 at 12:48:50
Specs: Windows 7, Xeon/4GB
I never received the confirmation e-mail from Tom's when I signed up. I see all rejected SPAM as well as "normal" mail, and it ain't there either. The reason I'm asking about this here, is that

a) there doesn't appear to be any other way, and
b) this happens once in a great while on other forums.

No other forum host has ever come up with an explanation. I eventually had to give up on Mozilla, and sign up again using a (different) free e-mail -- my original signup was still in some kind of "awaiting confirmation" limbo, and apparently was doomed to stay there forever. But at least here I can post OK, just not get e-mail notifications of updates. All I can think of is that some path(s) out there block my e-mail address, but I don't know where to go from here. My e-mail provider is Verizon, if that's any issue.

Doesn't look like there's a category for this... also, don't think OS or CPU/RAM matter much.

Also, just discovered this Q&A site uses a different login than does Tom's, and this registration confirmation came through immediately.

Hello PhoebeAnn,

I'm sorry to hear about your issues receiving e-mail updates from Tom's Hardware. You are correct that this forum, Computing.Net, uses a different login and e-mail system than Tom's Hardware. That is most likely why your issues on Tom's Hardware didn't translate over to this system.

We are aware of the issues with e-mail from Tom's Hardware not always being properly received. It is something we are continually working on. I'm glad you found a workaround of using a different e-email account.

Thank you for keeping us informed!
Justin

I haven't yet set up the other e-mail for Tom's. If it follows the same pattern I've seen, I won't be able to use PhoebeAnn as my username, because it's already half-registered. But I'll work it out.

PhoebeAnn,

You should be able to log into the account and change your e-mail. Then you can resend the activation e-mail to a different address. Some users have had to do this.

PhoebeAnn,

I believe so, but you may have to resend the confirmation again.

I changed it to my gmail account, the confirmation request came immediately, I sent it back and was confirmed. Then I changed it back to my "real" address, it claimed a confirmation request had been sent, but it never showed up. So I reset it again to my gmail address and I'm confirmed once again. There is a minor oddity about my Verizon address, though. I'll check that out and PM you (if I can) if it's significant.

OK, that was it. If you will tell me how to get a private message to you, I can give you something to go on.

The answer selected as "Best" didn't solve the problem, but we think we have a lead, and it's being pursued.
