Links in CN post prefixed with redirectingat?

Justin,

Can you explain the reasons why all clickable links in computing.net posts are prefixed with http://redirectingat.com/ and for what purpose? I discovered the prefix by right-click hyperlink Properties for the full URL address. Also, from what I gathered, redirectingat.com is a redirection service used by online publishers.

Hey,

This is an advertiser we are testing. All the links should redirect without any problem, but it gives us information about about where the links are going.

Thanks,
Justin

... I've noticed that there is still a "link" character limit which seems to defeat the objective of using a redirector(?)

... still having to shorten the "url's" which in effect is redirecting from yet another source.

................ not sure what the C/N limit is; but some driver links overshoot!

Hey,

The link limit should be pretty high. Of course, if you are hitting up against it, you can try http://tinyurl.com

Hmmm

The URL for the tinyurl.com link posted above is enclosed in parenthesis as

rather than just

(http:/.tinyurl.com)

Hey,

Yeah, its just a tracker... It directs to the right place, right? Are there any problems with that redirection working right?

I'm at work & just tried to click on a newegg link that was included in one of the posts. If I put my cursor on it, I see this at the bottom of the IE windows:

If I copy the shortcut, I get this:

(http://redirectingat.com/?id=2823X591627&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newegg.com%2FProduct%2FProduct.aspx%3FItem%3DN82E16814187098&sref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.computing.net%2Fanswers%2Fgaming%2Fhalf-height-graphic-cards-common%2F11836.html)

If I attempt to open it, the page goes blank & this is what's in the address bar:

(http://www.apmebf.com/2t70iqzyG/qx1/FEIIKELK/HNNFKLH/E/E/E?q=mA0v%3DA204KQKLpNRJOKP%26C93%3DzBB7%25LS%25KX%25KXEEE.5wEwyy.u64%25KXh96vCuB%25KXh96vCuB.sA7F%25LXaBw4%25LVfQKWJOQJMJQPIRQ<<zBB7%3A%2F%2FEEE.B283zuw.u64%3AQI%2Fu30u2-LRRJOPL-JIMMOIPO<<Y<<)

EDIT: we're still using IE6 at my office, not sure if that has anything to do with it. We're switching to IE8 in Sept

Justin -

Can you replace your adserver? Every time I click on a link from a CN post using IE7 IE8 & Firefox, there is a delay in loading the page. Firefox reported the cause as "Waiting for www3.smartadserver.com." While the delay in loading the page hardly last more than 5-10 seconds it's getting to be more annoying. Please do something about this.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a plan in the works to get rid of smart very soon!

I agree with you, something has to be done, and, believe me, we are working on it.

Thanks,
Justin
