Solved I can't seem to reset my password on your site

January 16, 2016 at 17:03:02
Specs: Windows 10
I had to log in again after I lost my password.
I had been trying to reset my password, then sort of gave up.

Now I'm trying to reset it again, but it just refuses to let me.

Any ideas?

PCs_are_super,

I see... Can you send me a private message, or respond to the one I sent you? I can change the password for the balscarlet account. I'll give it to you then you can change it whatever you like.

Thanks!
Justin

Hello,

After you are logged in, if you click here: http://www.computing.net/cgi-bin/my... and try to change the password there, it what happens?

Thanks!

HI, there, Justin, and thanks for your quick response. First of all, the link Computing. Net gave me to reset it doesn't have a section for the old password.
But, anyways, when I type in my new password, and, also, there's a security code I need to punch in, I keep getting Error:Password.

I have tried it several times, and I believe, this is what happened also when I lost my roboform info & had to log in again.

Also, BTW, I am acturally balscarlet. t like that better, just saying. When I couldn't seem to get in at all, I made a new account. But, computing sent the recovery email to my main email address. which I had used for the account with balscarlet.

ANY HELP ANYONE CAN GIVE ME WOULD BE SOOOO APPRECIATED!!!

Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
balscarlet

Excuse me, Justin,

I hope this can be accomplished.

A. For me to get my old user name back.

B. And, although not as important, 'cuz I'm sure it's associated with balscarlet, my old email address. Either that or wipe everything clean, both user accounts, and let me register again? I kind think that's not possible, but, just askin'!

Thanks so much, Justin,
PCs_are_super(or, also known as balscarlet)

The link works for me. Old password on top (already filled in), a line for the new password, & a line to confirm the new password.

Try clearing out your cookies, history, & temp files. If you don't already have it, use CCleaner-Slim:

PCs_are_super

For reasons unknown mine doesn't have the old password already filled in but I do get a box for Old Password. Has yours got this?

I don't know how you change your user name though.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Riider, yes, I DEFO use CCleaner, and I clean my PC every day. Sometimes more than once. So, couldn't be that, Also, I use Firefox, and have it set to clear history when I close my browser.

But, thanks for the suggestion!!

Derek, thanks for your concern, but I said previously that there is no box for old password, and I have to fill in a security code.

AND, just saying, I use roboform password manager, and since I am using facebook to log in, it got weird on me when I try to log into facebook.
Can't log into facebook with the passcard, but when I go online, click on facebook, I get logged in. I know that that's a problem with roboform, Hope I can get this resolved. so I can make a passcard for here AND for facebook.

BTW, you know where Justin is? Hope he can help me! Sorry, don't mean to be unappreciative, but, you DID say to hang in there with him!

Thanks so much.

Click on the link given in #1 once more. If you don't see an "Old Password" box then something on your computer must be preventing it - maybe your password manager. I see the same three lines that riider gave in #6.

Don't know about security code - do you mean one of those things where you have to copy the letters?

Sorry, don't know where Justin has gone, probably been called away.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi, Derek,

Well, yea, the link comes with an option for old password. That's how I knew to tell Justin that there was no option for inputting old password, or not, I wouldn't have had a clue.

And, yes, the security code is the thing with the letters that some places ask you to do so you can prove you're not a robot(or a cat, I guess! LOL).

But, now my problem is I do not remember my old password. I haven't a a clue, so,
well, I certainly hope that someone can possibly delete all my accounts, and then I can start fresh! That would be so cool!!!

Well, anyways, thanks for letting me vent.

I can think up great strong passwords, but IDs are not my strong suit!!! I have been using balscarlet on so many sites. Too bad you can't just use your email address here. Unless I make a new account with that? But then, what if it rejects my email address? But, then I could use my other email box that I associated with PCs_are_super???

Thanks for your help, Derek,

Only Justin or one of the moderators can sort out the accounts stuff. If Justin doesn't pop back you can always send him a personal message. If you're not sure where to find that feature click here:
http://www.computing.net/cgi-bin/my...
Make sure you put the recipients name "exactly" as written in #1, two words each lower case but with initial capitals.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thank you so much, Derek. You're a dear.

Well, when I decided to ask about my prob, I couldn't find like, support or something like that. So, I had to ask here on the forum.

I'll wait a few days, and if Justin doesn't come back on here, I'll try that.

Appreciate your wanting to help me!! Sigh, it's just, well, almost(starts pulling out hair).

PCs_are_super,

Sorry for the delay.

Which account are you trying to recover the password for? balscarlet? I'm not sure I understand the problem. You're saying it sent you a recovery e-mail, but it didn't work?

Or are you saying you want to reset the password for PCs_are_super account? If you want to reset that one, you'll have to use this form: http://www.computing.net/cgi-bin/my... with the e-mail address you used to create that account.

If you'd like me to change the e-mail on PCs_are_super to the one currently on barscarlet, I can do that as well.

Justin

HI, Justin,

Sorry for any confusion. OK, it's like this.

A. I had(or have), the account balscarlet. But, like I said, some months ago, when I needed to make a new passcard for my roboform password manager, I had the most difficult time.
B. I had to reset the password, then after that, had the darndest time trying to log in.
C. So, I created the account PCs_are_super
D. Bottom line is, I want my balscarlet account BACK!

Is it possible to delete the PCs_are_super account, and let me try & reset the password on balscarlet? If it is, great. If you ask me, I think the system has the 2 accounts sort of confused since the email addresses are very similar.

'Cuz, all I want is my balscarlet account.

Again, thank you so much & sorry for any trouble.

I don't know what happened when I reset my password & I simply couldn't log in after that. It became sort of like this account I have with another site, where I can't use my log in info, I have to use facebook to log in.

Sincerely,
PCs_are_super(also known as balscarlet)

Hi, Justin,

Also, I tried to reset my password on my balscarlet account to see.

I get spaces for a new password, no old password, and I need to punch in a security code.
When I do that, it still tells me Error:Password.

I think I told you in my first post, but the post is cut short, doesn't show the beginning with my explanation of what happened.

Thanks, Justin.
