Solved How far back in time does the forum go?

November 2, 2018 at 07:42:22
Specs: several
I was just wondering what my first questions were here
on Computing.net. I joined in March of 2010. Does the
message base still go back that far? Can I see posts
from that era?

I was wondering because I have lost some records from
that time, and the questions I asked about my newly-built
Windows 7 computer might fill in some of the gaps.

If posts that old are not retained here, are they in the
Internet Archive? Or anywhere else?

If you click on your name at the top of your post you will see your user details. This includes a list of all the posts you have made (going back to your join date in 2010).

Huh. I must have clicked in the wrong place. I only saw posts going
back a few years (even after hitting the "next" button several times).
Now I see them all the way back to when I joined. Thank you!

There is some sort of limit though. I joined mid-1999 and my first post vanished years ago. At some time most very long term members started showing their join date as February 9, 2008 so my guess is that is about as far as things now go back.

Justin might respond!

Wow, now that really is an archive. Pretty sure that a stack vanished from the real world in 2008 though.

Hello,

That is correct, we don't have any information further back than February 2008 for the join date, even members much older than that report that time (my own account included).

As for postings, stale data older than a specific date have been removed. There are various rules, so older posts on really small forums goes back further. This is mainly done to make sure older, less relevant solutions show up in search results ahead of more modern answers.

Thanks!
Justin
