Hi all,

I just had a question for all you regulars out there. I was wondering how you use social media services in your daily lives? I know we all use Facebook and Twitter, but I was more interested in how some of you guys might be using smaller ones in interesting ways. Any feedback you could give would be great!

Thanks for the info,

I do have a facebook account which my wife regularly reminds me to check. I use it for publishing pictures so family can see them without me emailing the images to them. Other than that, I rarely touch facebook.

I don't do twitter or any other social media.

I guess I'm just not a very social

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

re: I know we all use Facebook and Twitter

As Tonto once said to the Lone Ranger...

"What do you mean 'we', pale face?"

I don't tweet, I don't Facebook.

I actually have two facebook accounts, but I rarely use them. I just...don't like FB much.

Twitter is stupid. Will never use it.

Flickr is my social network of choice. Nothing beats taking long drives out of the city--sometimes to other cities--taking a bunch of photos, playing with them in Photoshop and sharing them on a site dedicated to shutterbugs.

I recently started with YouTube. Mostly family and tech-related video. It can be very fun, but it's making me wish I had better upload speed. 15/1 cable is just awesome for streaming 1080p, but horrible for uploading 1080p. Uploading video slows my interwebs to a crawl. Which forces me to go outside. :P

And of course, there's good old, where I always go to help people with their computer problems, bitch about Apple, etc.

To join the majority here, I don't have any social networking accounts, unless you count the lounge here. I don't even text. And, guess what, I talk to friends on the phone and in person. Besides, when would we find the time?

I do have a few friends that regularly email.

I agree with DerbyDad & OtheHill. No facebook, no tweet, no texting. And I have a bare bones cell phone that I rarely use. I speak to people in person, on a land phone, or thru e-mails. I try to keep my electronic footprint as small as possible. I have no debit card & have never used an ATM in my life. No, I'm not a kid, I'm in my mid 50s.

Hold on there, micklig!

I said no facebook, no tweets. That's about are far as we go in comparison.

I text all the time, I use my cell phone a lot, and sometimes all I carry is my debit card.

Obviously person-to-person, land line and email communication are right there in mix also.

I've never been on myspace or facebook or whatever. when I bought my first cell phone I went into the store and said "give me the cheapest phone and cheapest plan you have". Then I went to the next one and said the same thing, then went with the best deal. Never bought a computer either, use other peoples throw aways. I am currently shopping for my first LCD TV, still use a 27" tube. Do own my own home though.

I too, don't have a Facebook or My Space account. I would never Twit either. I have a pay as you go cellphone and only use it to make calls and occasionally text. I use online banking and have for many years. I use my debit card a lot and rarely carry much cash. I'm not opposed to smart phones, I just don't have any use for them. I use my desktop for everything. I see people wasting time every day with their face glued to a 3" screen on their phone. I call people I want to talk to and have a regular email list of people I stay in touch with. I'm not anti social, I just like my privacy. To each his own, I guess.

Justin, I assume the above answers are not what you expected to see. That said it should still give you some incite.

I don't have Twitter, or Myspace, but I do have Facebook. I have an iPhone which I am on all the time mostly texting, or using Facebook.

I use facebook to talk to my friends though, not as much to share photos. I guess I'm the opposite of most users.

I'll assume most of you here are older, sorry if I offend anybody. Most people my age (16) use these social networks all the time.

Can I put a question here?

Insight, yes. I guess as people become more computer "savvy" they are less likely to interact with all those new found crazy social media sites! Its actually not that unexpected!

Had a Facebook account and it got to be a total waste of good time. Too many people (that I had no clue as to who they were) started friending me. Figured that if someone was a real friend there were many other venues they could contact me (and be a little more personal about it). Then the privacy concerns were raised and I just wiped out the account. That was several months ago.
