I found my way to these forums a few days ago via Google Search.

A friend was having problems with the Google Search redirects (a rootkit?) on his computer as well as the computer giving warnings of being low on memory.

From just reading several posts, where a poster's redirect problems were cured, I was able to learn the procedure, put together a "tool kit" of utilities, head over to his house and fix the problem.

The low memory problem on his computer was nothing more than he just had too much running at startup. I shortened that list down with Sysinternal's AutoRuns and set his computer up to have Process Explorer run at startup so he can see what's loading and at any given time and also what might be hogging his system resources.

Thanks to the helpers and also those with their problems for following through in their post on how an issue was resolved. Very helpful forum.

I, too, must say THANX to Tom for resurrecting computer.net; it is nice to have it back in full flower.
for a while after the move it looked like cached pages and now it doesn't. There were a lot of clear simple answers on the original and I hope that continues now.
it looks like it will.

"I, too, must say THANX to Tom for resurrecting computer.net;"

The regular helpers would care to differ. Computing.net WAS and still is the best hands on tech site on-line. When Tom's hardware bought it out, IMO all they did was add more paid sponsors to the site...it was fine before that.

I've never been to computer.net

I only have enough spare time to help out in one forum so I hang here in computing.net

How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
