Specs: Windows 7, 1.9 GHz / 3837 MB
Hi all,

This week's poll question is about new information leaked about the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. Discuss here if you think this next Windows OS will be a game changer like Windows 95, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

Sounds like a lot of vaporware. Interesting though that they're thinking of an "App Store" like iPhone/Android.

It seems that Microsoft will be granting at least one of my Windows 8 wishes by making it a modular, cross-platform OS. Win8 will run on everything from ARM-based smartphones and slates to high end x86 desktop machines.

The rest of my Win8 Wish list:
-64-bit only for laptops/desktops
-Fully hardware accelerated UI (even in Win7 the GDI that runs beneath the desktop window manager is only partially hardware accelerated). More Direct2D, please!
-Database file system (remember WinFS?)
-Blu-Ray playback in Media Center. PowerDVD is such a clunky program.
-PDF, MKV, FLAC, & RAR support built in.
-MSE included.
-Only 2 editions for desktops and laptops: Home and Pro. There's no need for Starter and Ultimate editions.
-Better battery life on laptops.

Socket 939 | Dual-core Opteron 185 @ 3.2GHz | 4GB | 1.0TB | Win7 x64
GeForce GTX 460 1GB | X-Fi Ti Pro | A8N32-SLI Deluxe | Antec P182

Windows 8 Will Supposedly support 128-Bit. Win7 was the last 32 bit windows OS. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/ne...

I don't like the direction things are going. Facial recognition logon? Info stored in the cloud? Call me paranoid, but it's all leading to something. If you're into movies, I don't want to live in a Matrix or Surrogates type world.

I don't think that windows 8 will have all those fancy features they specify... they're just trying to get the customer's attention.

Operating systems cost way to damned much. I have 7 Ultimate simply because it was part of a deal for helping set up a network otherwise I would still be on XP Pro with plans of staying there.

I voted for 'transformative' because I believe Microsoft will start to introduce its Cloud technology far more, something that users such as myself would still not feel comfortable with - it's akin to working for a large organisation where you're sat at a dumb terminal and everything is done by remote servers. The underlying idea being that currently you buy the OS & that's it as far as M$ getting money from you is concerned, but if they can charge nominal amounts for Cloud access then it's an on-going earner. Just my thought anyway, I wait to be shot down.....

I'm a computer technician and I build computers for the disabled and I always liked windows OS but he fact is that theres always something going wrong with the OS. it seems when you get something going good then something else goes wrong. Thats why I run Zorin Os 4.0 and download wine to run all my windows programs. Kidding you not it's ten times faster than windows and has never got a virus because it's a kernel based OS and it says that you don't need a virus program. To me it's simple if I can find a OS that will do all that I want and need it stays on my desktop and laptop, it's that simple. People need to find and realize the power of Linux, it's free and you don't get viruses, maybe bug's but fixable by kpackage it or update manager and again all free. Strongly suggest upgrading to Linux. If you have any questions go to aarongoforth.webs.com and send me a comment and I'll get back to you as soon as I see it. I check it daily.
