Hi all,

This week's poll question is about news that Virgin Mobile is now throttling its "unlimited" data plan in the US. Discuss here if you think cellular data plans will all ever be truly unlimited, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

For the moment at least this is a cash cow for the carriers but it wasn't that long ago you could not get unlimited long distance service here in the states or at least not get it for a reasonable fee. I remember when my grandfather past away when I was a kid the family was going nuts trying to pull off som briliant plan as to how to let everyone know without anyones ohone bill going through the roof. Now if I didn't have unlimited long distance my phone would have been shut off a few years ago.

I give it maybe five years. Someone will not only have it unlimited but it won't be that expensive. Everyone else will have to fall inline if they want any business out of it.

P.S. I pay less than $20 a month for unlimited DSL service. Granted it isn't the greatest thing out there as far as speed goes but it beats the heck out of dial up. To me paying $20 or more a month for an unlimited data plan on a cell is an outrage. $4.99 sure. It is way slower than my dsl service and there is no way I can transfer the data on the cell that I can with my desktop so why would I pay more for the cell?
