Hi all,

This week's poll question is about news that SteamOS maker Valve currently has no plans to release Steam Machines of its own. Discuss here if you've used SteamOS yet, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Never heard of it. Where do you come up with these topics? Let's talk about the playoffs or something less obscure. How 'bout those Broncos?

Bronco is/was an awful type of loo paper as I recall - way back when the word computer meant Babbage, or LEO, maybe even Colossus.. Not to mention the Ultra mechanisms...

Steam machines were put out to grass ages ago with arrival of diesel (engines - not the "perfume"). And valves (tubes in Canada/USA) were side-lined by transistors, and later integrated circuits. But is the age of steam now returning from the preserves of conservationist...

Steam machines seem almost magical and alive at times...; they breathe, need food (fuel) and water...; need to rest on occasion... Almost human...

Perhaps discuss favourite and not so redundant technologies. Especially as valves/tubes have not only survived but are actually significant in some aplications (and allegedly growing so).

Unfortunately, I've heard of Steam.

Some time back I bought a game, Company of Heroes. I played it a lot with a friend of mine online. We'd join up and kick some nazi booty in cooperative mode. Then the original game manufacturer sold it to steam and permanently shut their game servers down.

So I did the necessary. downloaded Steam, installed, created an account and went to register my game and lo an behold, rather than send me a small patch to make the necessary network changes (ie: old server address to new) they want me to download the whole freaking game.

Not going to happen. I uninstalled steam and deleted the install file.

I'll just play it solo from now on when I get the urge to play it and steam can bite me.

The only "Bronco's" I know of are a hockey team......

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

DAVEINCAPS is probably talking about the Denver Broncos - a team in the National Football League:

At this writing, the Broncos are one game away from playing in the Super Bowl.

You guys from the UK are forgiven for not knowing that. :)

I don't know if they can be excused. Wembley hosts a few games every year--I believe there are 3 scheduled for next season. And once you go NFL you don't go back to. . . . Soccer??? (Hey, just giving you guys a hard time!)

Denver looked kind of anemic against San Diego. After putting up a good lead in the first half they were within a first down of giving up the ball with enough time for the Chargers to tie. They'll have to do better against New England next week.

Even in the UK (and north of the border too in Canada) we've heard of Bronco Billy... and wilde horses etc...

A possible topic for discussion... (With apologies the long gone Goon Show and Peter Simple too...)

The inflationary effects of a high increase in pea and bean consumption worldwide, and the deflationary effects of senna pods...

Hi Curt,

I have experienced SteamPowered.

Having legally purchased some second user games from a charity shop here in the UK, I found written with a map pen under a magnifying glass on the case, that they a needed a SteamPowered account in order to play.

Thus I opened one, then found if a game has already been is registered, it cannot be changed to a new owner, *whatever* the circumstances. The only way to continue is purchase a new game.. This is catching a lot of sellers/buyers out on ebay.

Hi Trvir,

now I remember Bronco, solid non-absorbent stuff.

Unlike the modern equivalent which gives way too easily. The upside being it is a good cure for biting one's fingernails! :-)

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
