Hi all,

This week's poll question is about news that most tablet users wouldn't be willing to pay for online news. Discuss here if you think tablets will eventually provide an alternative revenue source for declining print media, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

I don't buy print newspapers, so the chances that I would buy an online edition are pretty slim. I've been trying out the Guardian (a UK newspaper) who have a free trial until December. It's really not a good substitute for a print edition.

This just in: People prefer getting something for free, rather than paying for it. Film at 11.

(The Onion is all the news anyone really needs, anyways.)

I prefer drudgereport, mainly for its stylish layout ;-)

Seriously though, some UK newspapers have introduced paywalls and I suspect the only people that use them are those that can claim back the money on expenses or its provided as part of their job. I would certainly never pay for on-line news since so much of it is badly written in an effort to keep up with things or else they put out stories without checking them, so you still need an alternative source to confirm things.

Going on 30 years ago one of my first jobs was working in the mail room of a local newspaper. As an employee I got a substantial discount. If I wanted a paper when at work it was ofcourse free but I didn't 7 days a week so I would miss a few days here and there. I lived at home with the folks and they wanted the paper delivered daily so I set it up in my name. I found out the other day they are still getting that discount. They send a check once a year. I left that job in 84. Wonder if I should request back pay?

Paying for any source of news won't happen here as long as listening to the radio stays free...
