Hi all,

This week's poll question is about news that IBM is planning on acquiring Red Hat. Discuss here if you think this will help or hurt the Linux community, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks,
Justin

Oh dear... that may well be not be a happy event in the long run...

Once the big boys get a hold of something inevitably it gets top heavy/resource heavy ;cumbersome and cluttered. And in time it will start to cost money to acquire the Red Hat software...

IBM have done a great deal to support Linux over the years, so I can only see this as a good thing.

"Once the big boys get a hold of something inevitably it gets top heavy/resource heavy...."

That already happened to Red Hat long ago (though this won't do it any favors). When they were determined to split the paid version (Red Hat) and the free version (Fedora), they lost interest from many Linux devotees. Fedora is falling off the charts for most Linux users---with Elementary, Mint, Arch and Ubuntu leading the way...

Also figures that there definitely won't be an OS/2 Warp 5...(yes, that's sarcasm)

IBM has been a big supporter of the different OS, Previously They Supported Microsoft and we all know now where its stand. But let's hope that this deal does not turn up like the Microsoft one.
