Hi all,

This week's poll is about news that Google is now allowing street view tours of the inside of one of its many data centers. Discuss here if you've ever been inside of a data center, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

LOL

Now I have to wipe drool off my chin!

I'm in our data center most every day, it's one of my work spaces.

Ours is significantly smaller than google's but it is larger than the average business' data center. It holds:
- raised floors
- fire suppression system
- 3 industrial UPS' (30, 40, and 50 kva)
- 2 AC units
- 1 row of 7 switch/patch panel racks (full)
- 7 rows of server racks with 6 or 7 racks in each row (full)
- overhead trays for copper, fiber optic, and fiber channel cabling.
- direct feed to our building's generator in case of power failure.

Being as how this building was built in 1984 it doesn't look anywhere near as pretty as google's data center but it's the biggest one I've ever worked in and over the years, I've found myself in a few.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

About the largest one I've worked in is the Meteorological Office at Bracknell UK, now moved elesewhere.

Not quite such swish decor in those days.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Apart from our own ones I've been in a couple of IBM data centres. Big, but nothing like the Google one.

I have a friend who works for Google in London. Apparently the offices, and working conditions, there are something else too.
